Sound familiar?

A website should make it easy for customers to say yes.

Customers cannot figure out how to book or contact you.

If visitors have to hunt for the next step, some will give up. A clear path from interested to contacted is the most important job a small business site has.

It looks fine on a computer but not on a phone.

Many people look up a local business on their phone. Your site should be easy to read and easy to tap there first.

You paid for a site and still cannot change a phone number.

Your website should belong to you. Changes should be quick, and you should never have to start over to fix something small.

What I do

Three ways I can help

New website

A new website

Starting at $500 for a one-page site with a contact form. Need more pages or features like booking, galleries, menus, or event calendars? I will quote it by scope. I use modern AI tools to build faster, and I review every page myself so it works for real visitors.

Fix-up

A website fix-up

Already have a site that frustrates customers? I look at how visitors move through it, then fix the biggest problems first: confusing steps, poor phone layout, slow pages, and unclear wording. You keep what already works.

Lauren Schaefer, founder of Pink Hippo Design
About

Hi, I'm Lauren.

I have spent more than 20 years in user experience design, figuring out why people get stuck on websites and apps and how to fix it. I have led design teams at education and software companies, and I ran my own design consultancy for over a decade.

Pink Hippo Design brings that same experience to small businesses in my own community. I use modern AI tools to build quickly, which helps keep prices fair, and I check every page myself on a phone and a computer before you see it.

I also teach in the UX design master's program at Columbus College of Art & Design.

Questions

Questions small business owners ask

How much does a small business website cost?

A one-page website with a contact form starts at $500. Larger sites with more pages or features like booking are quoted by scope. You always get a written quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

How long does it take?

A one-page site is usually ready within one to two weeks after I have your text and photos. Bigger projects take longer, and I will give you a timeline in your quote.

Will I own my website, domain, and hosting?

Yes. Your domain name and your content belong to you. I set things up in accounts under your name so you are never locked in.

Can you fix my existing website instead of replacing it?

Yes. Many sites do not need to be rebuilt. I review how visitors move through your site, then fix the biggest problems first, such as confusing steps, poor phone layout, slow pages, and unclear wording.

Do you use AI to build websites?

Yes, and I am open about it. I use modern AI tools to build faster, which helps keep prices reasonable. I make the design decisions and review every page myself on both a phone and a computer before you see it.

Will my website show up on Google?

I set up the basics that help search engines and AI assistants understand your site: clear page titles and descriptions, a sitemap, fast mobile pages, and plain-language text about what you do and where. No one can promise a top ranking, and new sites often take a few weeks to appear. A free Google Business Profile also helps local businesses a lot, and I can point you to how to set one up.

What areas do you serve?

I work with small businesses in the Columbus, Ohio area, including Dublin, Hilliard, Powell, Worthington, Westerville, and New Albany. I also work remotely with clients anywhere.
